The NATORZ humane community-economy

According to President Lyndon B. Johnson, “The Great Society is a place where every child can find knowledge to enrich his mind and to enlarge his talents. It is a place where the city of man serves not only the needs of the body and the demands of commerce but the desire for beauty and the hunger for community. It is a place where men are more concerned with the quality of their goals than the quantity of their goods.”

Considering that the social and economic fates of any community are intricately and indelibly bound together, a NATORZ humane society will be a hybrid community-economy, which blurs and merges the lines between the community and its economy and between individuals and economic enterprises to make it as practically and holistically sustainable, self-sufficient and resilient as possible.  The community with its residents and partners from other communities will become an umbrella that are inclusive and protective by putting the collective economic interests before individual economic interests, and will act more like a family household with members working together for the benefit of the whole family’s well-being.  In the current age of economic inequality, uncertainty and hardship for most of the world’s population, it just makes sense to pool and share all human, material and financial resources equitably and efficiently, to take care of each other and to work together to make the world a secured, comfortable and desirable habitat for everyone.

Imagine every individual who can work will have a job in NATORZ.

Imagine every individual is paid a living wage or its equivalent in NATORZ.

Imagine every individual contributes to the success of the community-economy and shares all its economic gains in NATORZ.

Imagine every individual is guaranteed the basic and essential necessities of life so that no one is hungry, homeless, destitute, illiterate and/or without dignity in NATORZ.

Imagine every individual has the time and opportunity to realize his or her full potential in NATORZ.

Imagine every individual has a decent quality of life in NATORZ.

Imagine every individual in NATORZ aspires not to be the wealthiest person in the world but the happiest.

Whenever we share our pain, suffering, failure or workloads, they will be minimized because the burden is distributed by empathy among friends and family.  Whenever we share our joys, pleasures, successes or blessings, they will be maximized because the effect is exponentially amplified among friends and family.  A community helps us to equalize the opposing forces in human life: feeling to need and be needed, being independent and dependent, and personal freedom and collective responsibility.  Every man for himself may be relevant for the cavemen, but in our civilized society, we need to rally around “all for one and one for all” as a united front to take care of one another while fighting for climate change and other crises crippling humanity.

Intrinsically, we already know community building is in our DNA.  That is why we already have many good people and good non-profit organizations doing good things for other humans, the environment and the planet right now.  However, their beneficial efforts and impacts cannot spread and scale because of the constant shortfall of reliable human, material and financial resources.  They must join forces with NATORZ to amplify their reach, messages and actions.  Once we have the majority on our side, we can flip the balance and turn the tide.  NATORZ will be a unifying front of the disparate masses and together we can build a civil, caring and cohesive community, with a strong collective safety net for everyone.

By socializing gains and socializing costs, NATORZ encourages more widespread equality and less tragedy of the commons.  At the same time, it also encourages less neglect and abuse of the vulnerable and disadvantaged ones and more compassion and charity of the lucky and blessed ones.  By promoting equality and security for everyone, NATORZ offers a new social and economic contract between workers and employers to create a more just and better world for the present and the future.

Let us imagine what if…
